Knee Brace Recovery Device

Mechanical recovery device designed to aid post-surgery knee rehabilitation, developed in collaboration with a startup.

Overview

This project focuses on the development of a specialized knee brace for post-surgery rehabilitation. The initiative began as a challenge with a startup to create a more effective recovery device. The project holds deep personal significance as it was inspired by my best friend's experience undergoing two knee surgeries and struggling with multiple existing recovery tools. This drove the design philosophy to prioritize patient comfort and practical usability alongside clinical efficacy.

Mechanical Design

The design features a custom hinge mechanism that allows for controlled range of motion, essential for progressive rehabilitation. The brace structure was modeled in SolidWorks with a focus on ergonomics and structural integrity. A key innovation in this iteration is the folding mechanism, designed to make the device portable for patients who need to travel. The "Knee 3" prototype demonstrates this capability, folding down to a compact size suitable for standard luggage. 3D printing was used extensively for rapid prototyping to test fit and function.
